Green Fleet

The Region of Waterloo operates about 1,000 vehicles providing a range of services including transit, police and ambulance, water and waste management.

In its commitment to environmental protection, the Region aims to reduce the negative impact of operating a fleet of vehicles while maintaining service to the community.

What we've done to date:

• Use cleaner burning fuel
• Install advanced pollution-control technology
• Purchase more fuel-efficient vehicles
• Purchase hybrid-electric vehicles
• Install technologies to reduce engine idling 
• Provide advanced driver training
• Increase preventive maintenance
• Use environmentally friendly products and procedures in fleet service centres
