Meet Jean Haalboom

Jean Haalboom was re-elected to Regional Council as a Kitchener representative on October 25, 2010. She was first elected to Regional Council representing Kitchener in November 2000 and was subsequently re-elected in November 2003 and 2006.
As a member of Regional Council, Jean has served on all standing committees. In addition, Jean has also served on numerous other Regional committees, working groups, project teams and studies and Boards - more recently - Jack Young Civic Award Committee, Heritage Planning Advisory Committee (Chair), Public Art Advisory Committee, Region of Waterloo History Museum Steering Committee, Specialized Transit Services Advisory Committee, Water Resources Protection Liaison Committee, RGMS-Rapid Transit Public Advisory Committee, Regional Development Charges working group, Regional Transportation Master Plan, Bridgeport Bridge Rehabilitation and Bridge St. Improvements project team, GRT & Mobility PLUS Business Plan, Kitchener Southwest Transit Services Review, Kitchener Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrade, Manitou Biosolids Dewatering Facility project team, River Road Extension project team, Rural Water Quality program, Transportation Corridor Design Guidelines, Grand River Conservation Authority, and Wilfrid Laurier University Board of Governors.
Jean first entered municipal politics in 1997 when she was elected to Kitchener City Council as the Doon Pioneer Ward Councillor. As a City Councillor, Jean served on the Public Works & Transportation Committee, Finance & Administration Committee, Planning & Economic Development Committee, Community Services Committee, Heritage Kitchener (Chair), Environment Committee (Vice-Chair), Property Standards Committee, Grand River Conservation Authority, the Mayor's Advisory Council for Kitchener Seniors, Homer Watson House Board of Directors, Doon Community Awareness Council, the Regional Heritage Planning Advisory Committee (Chair) and the Public Art Committee.
Jean is married to Richard Haalboom and they are the parents of Erijka and Ariana. Jean was a Special Education Consultant and Language Teacher for 36 years. Jean has been awarded the Volunteer Service Award from the Ministry of Citizenship & Culture and the Award of Merit from the Waterloo Regional Heritage Foundation.
