While the deadline for annual volunteer applications for 2012 has passed, please note that applications are accepted by the Clerk's office at any time throughout the year and kept on file in case of vacancies.

The Active Transportation Advisory Committee (ATAC) serves as a forum for the public to raise their viewpoints on particular active transportation issues and to advise Regional Council and staff on cycling and pedestrian issues. The Committee will facilitate the Region's goal of developing an Active Transportation Master Plan to encourage higher rates of walking and cycling and to integrate active transportation as part of a balanced transportation network.

The Aeronautical Noise Management Committee (ANMC) provides a consultative/communication forum for the community stakeholders to meet with the Region of Waterloo International Airport Management and other aviation community representatives to discuss issues relating to the mitigation of aircraft noise in the community.

The Ecological and Environmental Advisory Committee (EEAC) advises Planning, Housing and Community Services staff on development applications and Environmental Assessments which potentially affect the Region's most significant natural features. It also advises on other environmental issues of interest to the Region. EEAC consists of fourteen (14) citizen appointees with specialized environmental expertise and one (1) Regional Councillor.

Delegations for this Committee are requested to contact the Regional Clerk's office (519-575-4420) the Thursday prior to the meeting. Delegations are limited to a 10 minute presentation. Anyone who fails to register and appear at a meeting will be heard at the discretion of the Chair.

The Employment and Income Support Community Advisory Committee (EISCAC) reports to the Community Services Committee and is composed of members representing the community and key stakeholders, including social assistance recipients (both Ontario Works and the Ontario Disability Support Program). The Committee provides advice on employment and income support programs delivered by Social Services for the betterment of services to the residents of the Region of Waterloo.

The Grand River Accessibility Advisory Committee (GRAAC) will fulfill the purpose of the Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2001 for participating municipal Councils in our community by providing vision and direction towards the removal of barriers.Work is done in collaboration with participating scheduled organizations, as part of the promotion and facilitation of a seamless approach to effective barrier removal across the community.

All GRAAC meetings will take place on the fourth Thursday of each month at Kitchener City Hall, 200 King Street West, with the exception of December (which will take place on the third Thursday). Meeting time is from 1:30p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

The Region of Waterloo Seniors Advisory Committee was created in 2011 to provide counsel and advice to Regional staff, and through staff, to Regional Council in respect to Regional planning and services impacting seniors. The committee will provide a venue/forum for stakeholder and community input to improve the quality of Regional services for seniors, in addition to providing advice and feedback on policy, planning and services delivered by Seniors' Services and other Regional Divisions/Departments supporting seniors.

The Water Efficiency Advisory Committee (WEAC) reports to the Planning & Works Committee and is composed of four (4) Regional Councillors and six (6) citizen appointees. The mandate of WEAC is to advise Regional staff on issues of demand management and long-term program review for the residential, education and industrial/commercial/institutional sectors. This Committee also acts as an expanded public forum regarding efficient water use as it relates to the Long Term Water Strategy. The Committee will make program recommendations to staff and through staff to Planning & Works Committee and Regional Council. The implementation of initiatives which are approved for action will be overseen by this Committee.

The Waterloo Region Community Housing Advisory Committee (WRCHAC) was established by Regional Council to provide input and advice on a wide variety of issues dealing with Community Housing through the Community Services Committee. Topics addressed by this Advisory Committee include reviews of provincial funding and regulatory proposals, the development of Regional procedures, and the translation of legislation and policy to the operational level. Membership includes two (2) members of Regional Council, Housing Provider Representatives, Regional staff and a resident representative.

WRCHAC meetings are generally held on a bi-monthly basis. Housing Providers who would like to have input on Regional policies and decisions are invited to attend meetings or contact their sector representatives to share their ideas and opinions.

The Well Interference Appeal Committee (WIAC) reports to the Planning & Works Committee and is comprised of five (5) Regional Councillors appointed for a four year term by Regional Council. The Committee provides a forum to address appeals by private well owners concerning potential well interference that might be attributable to Regional groundwater taking. The Committee meets when there are appeals of staff decisions of well interference complaints, in accordance with Council approved policies.
