Waterloo Region – Here’s a list of Region of Waterloo service changes for the Family Day holiday - Monday, February 17, 2020.

What’s open/not affected:

GRT Customer Service CentreOpen 8:15 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.

GRT Ainslie Street Terminal Open
Customer service kiosk hours: 10:05 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. (Closed 1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.) 
Building hours: 7:30 a.m. – 1:00 a.m.

Family Day at Region of Waterloo Museums

Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum

Open Monday, February 17, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
What better way to spend Family Day weekend than to bring your family to explore our galleries and enjoy many engaging family activities throughout this long weekend.

Saturday - In appreciation of Black History Month, explore our newest exhibit Mandela- Struggle for Freedom. Mandela fought for a better South Africa. What do you think would help create a better Canada? Join us to make a poster for the change you want to see in the world and so much more!

Sunday - Retro Games Day - Play some old school family games like Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots from the '60s or participate in vintage Nintendo video games on a movie theatre screen! This day is sure to excite all game enthusiasts!

In support of local 2SLGBTQIA+ community, join us to create some tie-died art, as well as explore the Rainbow Historical Project.

Monday - Make us part of your family this Family Day Monday as we explore STEAM. Discover science, technology and engage with engineering. Be creative in the arts and use your math problem solving skills this long weekend with these fun activities.

Activities included with regular admission or membership.

Schneider Haus. National Historic Site 

Open Monday, February 17, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Spend Family Day at Schneider Haus! Outdoor activities, crafts and more! Join Wild Ontario from 1 to 4 p.m. for a nose-to-beak encounter with some of Ontario's incredible birds-of-prey! Our province is home to swift falcons, stealthy owls, and crafty hawks. In this meet-and-greet opportunity you'll have the chance to get up close, take pictures and learn about these amazing hunters of the sky.

Included with general admission.

McDougall Cottage 
Open, Monday, February 17, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Join us for some classic family-friendly games, fun crafts, and tours of the Cottage. McDougall's popular Family Day Café will be open from 1 to 4 p.m., offering samples of tasty and traditional Scottish treats like shortbread, Scottish toffee, and more! There will be free recipes for the taking, so you can try making your favourites at home.

Admission by cash donation.

Region of Waterloo International Airport – Open - Will not be affected. 

Waste, recycling, and green bin  Curbside collection as usual on holiday Monday, February 17.  Please have items out by 7 a.m.

All waste sites closed on Family Day (Feb 17) for residential waste drop-off.  Also closed are the Administrative buildings for container pick up (green bin/blue box). 

What’s running on a special schedule:

Grand River Transit (GRT) will be operating on a holiday service schedule on Monday, February 17, 2020. All GRT buses and ION light rail are free this weekend, including the Family Day holiday on Feb. 17.

All Regional Administrative Offices (99 Regina – Waterloo, 150 Frederick – Kitchener, 150 Main – Cambridge, Airport Administrative offices) – Closed 

Cambridge and Waterloo small vehicle transfer stations for residential waste drop-off - Closed

All Region of Waterloo Library locations– Closed 

Welcome Spaces (formerly called Employment Resource Centres) – Closed

Region of Waterloo children’s centres and Home Child Care offices – Closed 

Sunnyside Wellness Centre – Closed
