McQueen Shaver Boulevard

Overview

Project number: 07129 | Updated: January 2025

The Region of Waterloo is extending McQueen Shaver Boulevard from Franklin Boulevard to Highway 8. The road will be four lanes with multi-use pathway infrastructure provided.

The previous construction phases of McQueen Shaver Boulevard included the following:

  • Roundabout connection at Myers Road and Franklin Boulevard, widening of Franklin Boulevard and extension southerly to City boundary and the McQueen Shaver Boulevard overpass structure at Cheese Factory Road, completed in 2018.
  • New mainline construction and roundabout connections at Highway 24 and Franklin Boulevard Extension, completed in October 2021.

This new road will provide an easier and more efficient through route from south Cambridge to northeast Cambridge and Highway 401, reducing commuter-based traffic and heavy truck traffic congestion in Cambridge’s downtown core.

This project also unlocks and connects lands for the community via several new large residential subdivisions, schools, sports recreation facilities and more.
